The camel string ascends a dune in the Simpson Desert

Australia's living connection to 19th Century Desert Exploration & Afghan Cultural Heritage

" I am writing to thank you for the recent camel trek in the Simpson.

I seem to have fallen under the spell of the desert and haven’t been able to shake the feeling the horizon and the desert sky gave me since coming home. The green golf courses were quite something but the endlessness of the sky and horizon were something more. I have come home a different person with a much clearer sense of myself
and what I want from life; with a determination to live each day as if it was my last which is very disconcerting for those around me. I want to spend more time in the desert - there is no way after travelling with TC and his mob that I could go by 4WD, so I will be in contact next year in the hope that I will be able to visit the desert again;
the thought of a month in the desert is irresistible.

Your camels are amazingly patient and the cameleers a breed apart."

AH, 2009 Trek

In our 34th year, we present treks & expeditions that will enable you to explore and experience the Outback
in a way that you may never have thought possible. These are journeys that will reconnect you to the land.

Trekking with the amiable, charismatic camels offers an intimacy with the soul of the country that is completely absent when travelling by vehicle,
and you will discover that the pace of nomadic life will re-awaken your senses as they become attuned to the life,
beauty, diversity and moods of the surrounding desert.

You will not forget the camaraderie, the seemingly endless vistas, the brilliant evening glow of the stars, the captivating serenity of the day
and pure silence of the night, and of course the remarkable attributes of our camels.

Rain in the desert!
There has been widespread and heavy rain in the Northern Simpson Desert since late February
which will make for ideal trekking conditions this winter.
The desert will flourish during the next months!
